According to Bangladesh's Daily Star on December 21, a new study shows that the proportion of Bangladesh garment factories using digital payment for workers' wages rose at the peak of the new epidemic. A few months later, garment factories returned again and began to pay workers in cash. Small and micro financial opportunities, in collaboration with the South Asian economic model network (sanem), conducted this study under the project "Diary of garment workers".

In a press release, sanem said there was a big shift in the way workers are paid digitally in May. In the months that followed, the share of digital payments declined slowly. Clothing companies from brand suppliers in Bangladesh started cutting digital payments in August, when 76% of people paid wages electronically, down from 87% in July. In September, 73% of factories paid wages digitally.
