GRS

Textile people, if you do not know GRS now, then you can only say that you are lagging behind!

It's not terrible to be beaten. It's terrible that maybe a few years later, your product may be ruthlessly abandoned by the market.

What is GRS?

GRS is a voluntary, internationalized and targeted product standard, which is initiated by Textile Exchange, and is certified by third party certification bodies.

The purpose of GRS certification is to ensure that the statement on the relevant products is correct, while ensuring that the product is in good working environment, and minimize environmental impact and chemical impact on production operations. GRS certification is designed to meet the recovery / regeneration components of products (including finished and semi-finished products) that are verified by the enterprise, and to verify the social responsibility, environmental norms and related operations of chemical use.

As we all know, in recent years, global awareness of environmental protection has been gradually enhanced. This is not a "fashionable" wind, but a trend of development. Many brands have joined the regenerative action, and consumer groups are voting with their choices. Green recycled materials are becoming the first choice for everyone. There is only one earth, and green development is definitely the future.

Citing foreign media reports, Eric Liedtke, head of Adidas global brand, said: "our goal is to completely stop using the existing polyester fiber by 2024 and use all the recycled fiber to produce our products." At present, 50% of the 9 million 200 thousand single products sold by Adidas use this material as raw material for production, so it will take some time to complete the shutdown. )

In addition to Adidas, Nike, H&M, Burberry and Gap announced that they joined the Make Fashion Circular program launched by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation foundation to reduce waste in the global fashion industry by recycling raw materials and products.

In other words, these brands will prefer GRS certified suppliers in the future.

GRS certification requirements:

The proportion of regeneration components is greater than or equal to 20%.

GRS will be eligible after application.

1, the EIA is up to standard;

2, the third party inspection report of wastewater reaches the ZDHC requirement.

GRS authentication traceability principle:

If the company wants to apply for GRS certification, then the upstream supplier of recycled raw material should also have GRS certification. When the company is GRS certification, its supplier should provide GRS compliance certificate (scope certificate, SC) and transaction certificate (transaction transaction), while suppliers of recyclable materials at the source of supply chain (suppliers) need to provide recycling materials supplier agreement, and recycle materials declaration form (if they are), and on-site verification if necessary.

Classification and definition of GRS recycled materials:

1: post consumer recycled materials: materials produced by households or commercial, industrial and institutional facilities as final products and can no longer be used for their intended uses. Including materials recovered from the distribution chain. Materials that are recycled after consumer consumption.

2: pre consumption recycled materials: materials transferred from Waste Logistics in the manufacturing process. Exclude the reuse of certain materials, such as rework, regrinding or residual material generated during processing and reused during the same process. That is, materials that are not recycled after consumer consumption.

3: regeneration ratio: the ratio of recycled materials to quality in product or packaging. Only before consumption and after consumption material is regarded as recycling content.

GRS certification is a golden key to open up the international environmental protection market, but its certification standard is high and difficult, and it is not easy to get certification. Green development is the development trend of the textile industry at present. 80% of the global capacity of the recycled polyester is in China. The standard of raw materials selection for international brands is sustainable development index, and the sustainable development index of recycled polyester is even larger than that of organic cotton and hemp. Therefore, regenerated polyester fiber will be the trend of future development.
