There were strikes in about 40 factories in the city's Special Economic Zone, and tens of thousands of workers demonstrated that the base salary increased to $150.

Tens of thousands of workers in Svay Rieng, Kampuchea province have launched strike action for demanding higher wages, resulting in a number of factories in the Special Economic Zone paralyzed and manufacturers losing more than millions of dollars.

It is understood that a shoe factory worker in the Manhattan Special Economic Zone began to strike in December 16th (2015). The factory agreed to raise the minimum wage to 150 US dollars in 2016 years. The result was rejected by the factory. On the morning of December 17th, other factory workers in the shoe factory were lobbying to join the strike, causing tens of thousands of workers to leave their jobs in 40 factories in the special economic zone, forcing factories to stop.

The 17 day workers' collective strike was followed by a nationwide worker in December 2013.

Strike

After the most serious strikes in Kampuchea's clothing and footwear industry.

In view of the serious situation, the Kampuchea Garment Manufacturers Association (GMAC) urgently issued an open letter asking Premier Hong Sen to step in and instruct the relevant departments to take positive and effective measures to prevent the mob from continuing to hurt workers and destroy factory property, and to ensure that the factory can resume normal operation as soon as possible.

The representative said that the strikers were only speaking orally, and the factory had not yet received the written request from the workers.

Canal said the factory is meeting with relevant government departments to find solutions to the problem.

In addition, the chairman of the Kampuchea union of workers' movement Union (CUMW) asked that the workers' strike in Pakistan city was not initiated by trade union organizations, but by workers themselves.

Canal said that according to its union members, Kingmaker shoe factory workers and workers held an internal meeting on 16, and announced to workers that the base salary increased to $140 next year, which led to workers' dissatisfaction and launched a strike.

Canal said that the shoe factory worker went to a nearby factory and affected and called on other factory workers to join in their strike. The problem was so unmanageable that nearly 30 thousand workers were expected to take part in the strike.

GMAC said the strike workers' pay raise has been higher than the minimum wage approved by the national labor advisory committee next year ($140).

GMAC pointed out that the strike took place first from the Kingmaker shoe factory. After that, the thugs from the shoe factory began to create riots in the special economic zone, which seriously damaged factory property and caused injuries to workers and employees. The production activities in the entire Manhattan special economic zone completely stopped, resulting in millions of dollars in economic losses.

Similar events will be staged almost every year, which has seriously affected the mood of investors and the long-term investment outlook for Kampuchea.

GMAC calls on the government to take effective and appropriate measures to strengthen factory security and maintain public order and protect the safety of investors and factories.

GMAC also hopes that workers and trade unions will make demands through peaceful and lawful means. Similar acts of violence are not rational and respectable.
