It was confirmed that radioactive substances were also detected in the sediment near the Fukushima island after being exposed to excessive nuclear radiation.

Tokyo electric power company of Japan said that two workers who had detected large amounts of radioactive iodine -131 from thyroid gland had been exposed to more than 250 milliwalt radiation limits.

This is the first confirmation of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station employees.

Radiation quantity

Exceed the ceiling.

The Tokyo electric power company said that the two employees were more than 30 and more than 40 years old. They were the operators of units 3 and 4. They had been outside the building of the central control room and the reactor since the earthquake of March 11th.

During the examination in May 23rd, radioiodine -131 of 9760 Becquerel and 7690 Becquerel was detected from the thyroid gland, which is 10 times more than that of other employees.

The Japanese Institute of Radiology examined the internal radiation of the two employees, and concluded that two employees suffered internal and external radiation respectively, which exceeded 250 milsv.

The two employees have already left the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station. According to the diagnosis of the radiological General Institute, there is no abnormality in health condition.

Special treatment

To cope with the nuclear leakage accident, Japan's Ministry of health and labour has raised the annual radiation limit of nuclear power workers from 100 milsv to 250 milsv, while Tokyo electric power company takes 200 milt Hoff as the standard of employee handover.

The Ministry of environmental protection of Japan announced on the 3 th that radioactive isotope cesium -137 and cesium -134 were detected from river bottom sediment in Fukushima coastal area and central area, but radioactive substances were not detected in river water.

The above area is outside the warning area of 20 km radius of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station.

This is the first survey of radioactive substances in rivers in Fukushima Prefecture.

The survey was conducted in 29 locations in from May 24th to 29th. The results showed that radioactive cesium isotopes were detected in the sediment at the bottom of all the sites.

The half-life of cesium -137 is about 30 years, and the half life of cesium -134 is about 2 years.

In addition, radioactive iodine -131 with a half-life of about 8 days was detected in 4 locations.

Japan's environmental ministry believes that these radioactive substances will not immediately affect health, and is ready to continue the investigation in the rainy season.
