Strong Tenacity Of China'S Cotton Industry Boosts High-Quality Development Of The Industry

Hou Shunli, deputy director of the Council of the All China Federation of Supply and Marketing Cooperatives, said on the 15th that with the gradual recovery of market demand, the cotton textile industry has made a good start, driving the price of cotton and cotton yarn to rise gradually, laying a good material foundation for promoting high-quality development of the cotton industry.

Hou Shunli made the above statement at the 2023 China International Cotton Conference, co sponsored by the China Cotton Association, the National Cotton Trading Market and co organized by the Supply and Marketing Cooperation Federation of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Cotton is an important agricultural product and raw material for textile industry, with the characteristics of long industrial chain and wide coverage. China is a major country in cotton production, consumption, trade and textile and clothing export. The cotton industry is directly related to the interests of cotton farmers and the development of the textile industry, and also affects foreign trade and stable employment.

According to Gao Fang, president of the China Cotton Association, in recent years, in the face of difficult challenges, China's cotton and textile industries have shown strong resilience and quick response capability of the supply chain, and production, consumption and textile exports have remained stable. "In 2022, facing adverse factors such as rising prices of raw materials and energy, volatile commodity prices, and US dollar interest rate hikes, we seized the opportunity to realize textile and clothing exports of 323.35 billion US dollars, up 2.5% year on year," said Gao Fang.

The cotton crop year in China is from September 1 of the current year to August 31 of the next year. The China Cotton Association predicted that the national cotton consumption would be 7.6 million tons from 2022 to 2023, an increase of 4% over the previous year.

The China International Cotton Conference has been held every two years since 1999, and this year is the thirteenth, which has played a positive role in promoting exchanges and cooperation and industrial development of the global cotton industry. The 2023 China International Cotton Conference was held in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, from June 15 to 16. The conference released the first batch of terminal products of China Cotton Sustainable Development Project (CCSD), and nearly 800 representatives from relevant government departments, industry organizations, cotton merchants, textile enterprises and domestic brand merchants attended the conference.
